Michelle O’s Menu ‘Financial Disaster,’ School District Says

Calling it a “financial disaster,” another school district is dropping out of the recently overhauled National School Lunch Program.

Nicolet High School in Wisconsin’s Glendale school district says because of it’s financial losses last school year, it’s opting out for the 2014-15 school year.

“We thought it would be a financial disaster for us this year with the full implementation (of the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act),” district business manager Jeff Dellutri said at a recent school board meeting, according to Glendalenow.com.

Healthy foods are required under the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act, which will be fully implemented this year. But Vicky Hanson, the district’s food service director, said foods like black beans, kale and whole grains just end up in the trash at the end of the lunch hour.

“We put it out, but they just don’t take it,” she said. “It’s always in the trash.”

Dellutri told the board the district lost about $10,000 by being forced to serve “healthy” food students refuse to eat.

Glendale is the latest Wisconsin district to revolt under the federal regulations.

Earlier this month, Muskego-Norway school board president Rick Petfalski told the Journel Sentinel, “We believe that proper food nutrition and meal portion guidelines are best decided at a local level.”

“By leaving the program we will not be required to follow these onerous guidelines, pushed by and large by Michelle Obama, who last I checked has been elected by no one,” Petfalski said, EAGnews reported at the time.

Labor Unions Pass Resolution Defending Cop Killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, School Lesson Comparing Him to MLK

It is disheartening when a man convicted of killing a police officer is compared to Martin Luther King, Jr. It is even worse when this is what labor unions want to teach our children.

EAGnews.org reports:

A collection of labor unions is demanding that leaders of California’s Oakland Unified School District allow a lesson plan that compares convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal to civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to appear on the district’s website.

In a resolution passed on July 14, the Alameda Labor Council condemned Oakland Unified school leaders for censoring the pro-cop killer lesson plan, entitled “Urban Dreams,” and accused them of buckling to the intimidation tactics of the Fraternal Order of Police and Fox News.

The Alameda Labor Council – which is affiliated with the AFL-CIO – is an umbrella organization that coordinates the political activities of more than 100 unions, including the Berkley Federation of Teachers and the California School Employees Association.

“ … (I)t is dangerous and unacceptable to allow the police to determine the curriculum of a major school district like Oakland, or any school district,” the group declares in its resolution.

The Alameda Labor Council, on the other hand, sees nothing dangerous about Mumia Abu-Jamal who was convicted of killing Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner on Dec. 9, 1981.

The Government is Now Coming For Your Bake Sale Brownies

States are already standing up to the federal government after federal regulations kicked in which would affect bake sales in schools.

NationalJournal.com reports:

Barely a month after federal regulations for school cafeterias kicked in, states are already pushing back.

Specifically, they’re fighting nutrition standards that would considerably alter one of the most sacred rituals of the American public school system: bake sales.

Twelve states have established their own policies to circumvent regulations in the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 that apply to “competitive snacks,” or any foods and beverages sold to students on school grounds that are not part of the Agriculture Department’s school meal programs, according to the National Association of State Boards of Education. Competitive snacks appear in vending machines, school stores, and food and beverages, including items sold at bake sales.

Georgia is the latest state to announce an exemption to the federal regulations, which became effective July 1 for thousands of public schools across the country. Its rule would allow 30 food-related fundraising days per school year that wouldn’t meet the new healthy nutritional standards, which call for more healthy options and less junk food that could contribute to the nation’s child-obesity problem.

PETA Makes a Deal for Detroit: Go Vegan and Get Your Water Bill Paid For a Month

We are used to hear of PETA doing some crazy things, but bribing Detroit residents by offering to pay their water bill if they go vegan seems like it might top the list.

CBSDetroit reports:

The water shutoffs in Detroit have gained attention from around the country — including PETA. The organization is offering to pay one month’s water bill for 10 Detroit residents.

In return, those residents have to go vegan for a month.

The animal rights group PETA has joined the chorus of voices in protest of the shutoffs to Detroit residents behind in their water bills.

Lindsay Wright, with PETA, says that a member of the group has offered to pay one month’s water bill and provide a basket of healthy and cost-effective vegan food for 10 residents.

Nancy Pelosi Compares Immigrant Refugees to Moses, Baby Jesus

According to Nancy Pelosi, we should all be viewing the immigration crisis a bit differently. We need to remember that Moses was a refugee also.

Breitbart.com reports:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi doubled down on her comments that Americans should view the flood of children crossing the border while claiming refugee status just like baby Jesus.

Pelosi reminded reporters that it was the National Conference of Catholic Bishops that used the baby Jesus analogy. She then suggested that if Moses hadn’t have been accepted by the Egyptians, then there wouldn’t be the Ten Commandments.

Progressive Columnist: Thomas the Tank Engine Sends Race Messages Through Smoke Puffs

The PC Police have attacked a number of well-respected individuals over not being racially sensitive. Now they are attacking Thomas the Tank Engine too.

EAGnews.org reports:

Tracy Van Slyke, who writes for the liberal rag The Guardian, spewed her racial rhetoric and apparent refusal to allow children any enjoyment, in her latest scathing piece about this inanimate object:

“Thomas and those friends are trains that toil away endlessly on the Isle of Sodor – which seems to be forever caught in British colonial times – and, on its surface, the show seems to impart good moral lessons about hard work and friendship. But if you look through the steam rising up from the coal-powered train stacks, you realize that the pretty puffs of smoke are concealing some pretty twisted, anachronistic messages…

“(For the record, all the “villains” on Thomas and Friends are the dirty diesel engines. I’d like to think there was a good environmental message in there, but when the good engines pump out white smoke and the bad engines pump out black smoke – and they are all pumping out smoke – it’s not hard to make the leap into the race territory.)”

Staples Bows to Big Labor Boycott

It looks like students today might actually be learning something from teachers unions: being a bully will get you what you want.

EAGnews.org reports:

The office supply chain Staples Inc. announced this week it is canceling a pilot program with the U.S. Postal Service to offer post office services in more than 80 stores after the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers encouraged teachers to boycott its stores, Reuters reports.

“Staples will continue to explore and test products and services that meet our customers’ needs,” Staples spokeswoman Carrie McElwee told the news service in an email.

The NEA and AFT boycotts had nothing to do with educating students or any other education issue, but rather was a show of solidarity with the American Postal Workers Union, which strongly objected to the plan because it could have replaced some top-dollar postal positions with lower paid non-unionized Staples workers…

While students across the country are struggling to graduate from schools staffed with AFT and NEA teachers, the unions are focused on organized labor’s never-ending war against America’s capitalist system. The boycott was a strategic political move designed to help the country’s Big Labor coalition retain power and control at a time when its clout is quickly slipping away.

It’s the same strategy teachers unions use in school districts across the country to bully local school board members to approve spending tied to union contracts that local communities can’t afford.

Socialist Rep. Jan Schakowsky: Legalizing Illegals ‘Would Raise the Wages, Really, of All Workers’

Well, if there is anything we learned in Economics, it is probably that putting illegal immigrants to work would increase wages for Americans. Er wait, that’s the Marxist School of Economics that has never worked – anywhere.

CNSNews.com reports:

When asked on Wednesday if putting illegal aliens on a “path to citizenship” in the United States would help unemployed Americans, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) responded that “comprehensive immigration reform” would “raise the wages” of all workers.

CNSNews.com asked Schakowsky: “Do you think that allowing illegal aliens to stay in the United States and putting them on a path to citizenship, would that help the unemployed in America?”

Schakowsky responded: “We know that comprehensive immigration reform would add billions and billions to our economy. It would raise the wages, really. of all workers, because right now immigrants are – undocumented immigrants – are exploited and even paid below the minimum wage.”

Communist Rag Gushes Over Elizabeth Warren

Peoples World – the news outlet of the Communist Party USA – can’t say enough good things about Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

In an article about a campaign appearance for a Senate candidate in West Virginia, People’s World author John Case wrote:

Senator Warren characterizes what others call her rising “rock star” public persona as more like a lightening bolt from another world on an unsuspecting, plain spoken, ordinary American of modest means who fate placed in a fortuitous position to exercise true citizenship. Duty called her to raise her voice against the massive financial rip offs of recent decades. As an economics professor at Harvard specializing in bankruptcies, she was in a unique, expert position to play a key role in the financial reforms that eventually passed Congress after the 2008 crisis.

The reason why Elizabeth Warren is a rock star, however, is much more than a matter of expertise in finance. It’s because of her demonstrated integrity under fire; it’s because of her refusal to play the “Washington insiders” game where you have access to powerful people as long as you don’t criticize other insiders.

Instead, she kept telling the truth about the financial crisis and its causes. And she did so without being mean-spirited in the face of both administration blandishments and vicious smear tactics by Republican spitball artists. She was doing it again in big red, white and blue colors yesterday. She conveys a trust and connection with ordinary people that Hillary Clinton, the presumptive frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination, will have difficulty matching.

It’s a good indication of just how far-left Warren is and the types of policies she’d implement if she was president.
